The Central Operations Room at the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police received 1,391 phone calls between midnight and 4am.
This was due to the rains which lashed Abu Dhabi and its environs on Friday and at dawn today.
Lt Colonel Nasser Suleiman Al Maskari, Head of Abu Dubai Police Central Operations Section, said the phone calls reached their maximum between 2am-3am, with over 560 in that hour, with public reporting falling of trees and breaking of building glasses as a result of the torrential rain.
He stressed the keenness of the police to ensure public safety and security round the clock, noting that the operations room is ready to respond in the event of any emergency.
Weather forecast for Saturday, Sunday
The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has forecast that the weather will remain cloudy and hazy on Saturday, with a chance of rainfall over eastern and southern areas.
Winds will be fresh to strong at times especially over the sea, causing blowing dust and sands over open land reducing horizontal visibility, the NCMS said, adding that the sea will be rough to moderate over Arabian Gulf and moderate over Oman.
