Against the backdrop of the Federal Traffic Council proposing fines for smoking in vehicles, Al Khaleej has reported that a 34-year-old Emirati suffered 60 per cent burns when he lit a cigarette while inhaling a petroleum-based substance in his car.
According to the report, the man was driving the car at the time and lost control of the vehicle with his body on fire.
The vehicle hit another and climbed onto a pavement before finally coming to a halt.
The man jumped out of the car and began to run hysterically down the street.
Police patrols immediately rushed to the scene and the man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his burns.
According to the report, he is currently being treated at Al Qassimi hospital.
