Contrary to rumours circulating on social networking sites, Dubai Police has not installed any hidden radar to film vehicles violating traffic rules, the emirate's police chief said on Tuesday.

Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazina, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, denied the existence of radars hidden in metal boxes.

“We don’t hide cameras. Dubai Police has put up clear signs alerting drivers about presence of surveillance radars,” he said.

He also pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior had made a public announcement recently before installing 184 additional radars in Abu Dhabi

On the subject of trucks on Emirates Road, the Dubai Police chief said speed bumps will be put up on lanes used by trucks. Trucks and truckers need to be tracked and recorded electronically to ensure that no one drives a truck continuously for more than eight hours.

He said an electronic points system, similar to the ones used in the US and Europe, to regulate the movement of trucks must be implemented in all Gulf states.
