Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference will begin today– will Apple spring a surprise and unveil its new iPhone 6?

It is widely expected that Apple would announce its new updated operating systems – iOS8 for mobile and OX10.10 for the Mac series – apart from new software for a connected home.

But what’s on everyone’s mind is if Apple will, indeed, provide details of its next iPhone. Adding to the buzz is this YouTube video (now identified as fake) that points out to a new iPhone device being unveiled at the Moscone auditorium.

As Apple fans would already know, the company has always announced its iPhones during a separate event either in September or October and WWDC has always been about showcasing new versions of operating systems and other products.

There is no reason why Apple should break from this practice and this year, too, it is widely expected that Apple could launch not one but two new versions of the iPhone – including one with a bigger form factor – sometime in September.

According to one German news website apfelpage.de, the announcement could come on September 19.

A Google translation of the content reveals that one of the largest distributors in Germany has requested the call centre agents, whose contracts were supposed to expire in September to extend it.

It is widely expected that Apple could launch two different versions of the iPhone this year – one with a 4.5 inch screen and a second phablet-sized 5.5 inch device.

Is this the real iPhone 6 from Apple Inc.?

Meanwhile, the iPhone 5S continues to lead sales compared to its competitors. A Virgin Megastore sales staff yesterday told Emirates24|7 that last year’s iPhone model continues to sell faster than the latest Samsung Galaxy S5.

Similarly Skyline Trading, a marketing firm offering discount schemes on behalf of both Etisalat and du, says iPhone 5S has been selling faster than its Samsung counterpart.

“We currently have an ongoing offer with etisalat where a subscriber needs to commit to a one year monthly plan of Dh273 which will enable him to get a free 16 GB iPhone 5S apart from 130 international and national minutes apart from 130 MB of data,” he said.

A limited time offer also allows a user to get 5GB of data for an additional payment of Dh40.

A similar offer with du for the same monthly commitment will entitle a user to  get 100 international and 100 national minutes apart from 100 MB data.

“But with du you will have to pay Dh749 as down-payment apart from giving your credit card copy,” he added.

The offer is also available with other smartphone such as Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 3 and Nokia Lumia 1320.
