7 signs it’s a Sunday and you are working in the UAE

The start of a workweek is not a happy situation for most employees. After a restful and lazy weekend, the first working day of the week can fill many with anxiety and a foreboding sense of stress, monotony and the truth of having to see your peers again and listen to their never-ending rants.

For those who lack the motivation to head to work on a Sunday morning, here are some signs that you must have felt just before getting in the office and thereafter during the day.

#1 Unhappy Saturday nights

Thursday is one of the happiest days as it’s just before the weekend. Most employees are excited about their plans for the couple of days ahead…meeting friends, family, outing, a picnic or just lazing at home.

On the contrary, Saturday nights are sad, as they tell us that Sunday morning is not going to be the same. One thing that you sure must be doing at this time will be looking at your mobile phone as you set the alarm. “Ah, only 6 hours and 42 minutes to go,” is a common reaction as you set your mobile phone on snooze.

#2 I want to call in sick

And as the alarm goes off, the next reaction is – “I don’t feel like going to work. I want to call in sick.” But as minutes pass by you do manage to drag yourself out of bed and get ready for work. If you have kids to send to school, it can get more complicated as you have to dress yourself up and them as well.

#3 Why do I remember all the important things on Sunday morning?

The weekend was so lazy that you forgot many important things that should have been done during those days and remember it only on a Sunday morning. It could be signing some papers for your kids for school, finishing some personal chores or even some further planning for the week ahead at work. “I’m going to be more organised on the next weekend,” is the next reaction.

#4 Drivers in UAE seem to be the worst on a Sunday morning

You are already running late and are not so in a good mood. And as you head to work, you do realize that drivers in the UAE are worst on a Sunday morning. As you change lanes to get ahead it seems everybody else is relaxed, is sitting idle and is not bothered to report to work.

#5 I’m tired, I need another weekend

As you step in the office you see many of your colleagues just as drowsy as yourself and this is how you react – “I need another weekend to recover from this one,” and those who are on the same wavelength can’t agree more.

#6 My coffee consumption is the highest on a Sunday

As you try to wake yourself up from the sweet slumber of the weekend, you consume a lot more coffee than on a normal given day. With each cup you try to focus on the assignments that need to be done but so many cups also do not seem to work.

7# It’s only 11.30am and I want to be back home

The day seems longer than usual and you keep looking at the watch, waiting to go back home even when you’ve only been at work for a couple of hours or so. Today, you are more likely to spend time in the cafeteria, in the office corridors with colleagues and vending out more coffee from the coffee machine.

If you’re nodding affirmatively to all this, you are afflicted by the Sunday Sadness Syndrome in the UAE. Don't sweat though - you are not alone. The same syndrome goes by the name of Monday Morning Blues in some other parts of the world.
