Colombo: Box seats in cinemas subject to scrutiny after man rapes his fiancee in the film theatre
The Minister of Cultural Affairs has instructed the Chairman of the Film Corporation to take action to prevent the misuse of enclosed seating facilities (Box enclosures) in cinema halls, after a man allegedly raped his girlfriend while they had gone to a cinema to watch the Sinhalese epic movie Siri Parakum.
Minister T.B. Ekanayake said he would instruct the Film Corperation to take measures to regularly insect the balcony area and the box enclosures in cinemas, to prevent members of the public from abusing the facilities that such seats and enclosures afford.
Our sister paper, Mawbima, yesterday reported the rape of a young woman by her boyfriend inside a box enclosure of a cinema.
