A 75-year-old woman who was left stranded by her four sons at Dubai Airport has been rescued by the Women and Children Protection Department, Human Rights, Dubai Police.
Dubai Airport police received information that an old woman was crying in the airport lounge and she was alone.
Major Shaheen Al Mazmi, Director, Airport Operations and Human Rights at Dubai Airport was quoted by Emarat Al Youm as saying that officers who met her discovered she did not have a plane ticket.
The woman told them that she was taken to the airport by her youngest son who left her in the lounge saying he would buy one and come back, but did not.
Major Al Mazmi says the mother told officials that her four sons reside in the UAE have good jobs, but do not want to sponsor her.
The woman was moved to the care of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Child as the police tracked down the sons.
Major Al Mazmi says it was shocking when the sons at first avoided meeting with Dubai Police officials or their mother.
However, the police did not give up and eventually the eldest son responded, apologised for what his younger brother did and received his mother from Women and Child Protection Wing at the Human Rights department.
He added the eldest son bought a ticket for mother to return to her homeland to live with her relatives, because she no longer wished to stay with her children.
The police now also have a written pledge from the sons that they will look after her.
