Dubai Inflation: How much is it costing you this year?

The annualised cost of education in in the emirate of Dubai increased by 4.87 per cent till the end of July this year compared to the same period last year, Dubai Statistics Centre has said, adding that this, along with the other groups of indicators, pushed up inflation by 3.46 per cent in the same period.
 
Hike in school fees was the main cause of the increase in cost of education, especially for the secondary level where fees increased by 5.09 per cent whereas tuition fees for the kindergarten and primary schools increased by 4.89 per cent and university fees increased by 4.82 per cent.
 
The statistics centre added that the major group which witnessed increase in prices over the first seven months of this year was liquor and tobacco which surged by 6.34 per cent; accommodation, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 5.8 per cent; furniture, household products and maintenance tools by 3.33 per cent; hotels and restaurants by 3.14 per cent; foods and non-alcoholic beverages by 2.75 per cent; healthcare by 2.52 per cent; communication by 2.46 per cent; transport by 1.89 per cent; and miscellaneous products and services by 1.79 per cent.
 
The centre added that the textiles, garments and footwear group declined by 3.08 per cent; while the entertainment and culture dropped slightly by 0.77 per cent.
 
Figures released by the statistics centre also showed inflation of 0.46 per cent last month compared to June.
 
In July, the inflation indicator went up for many groups. The highest increase was in liquor and tobacco which went up by 5.32 per cent; accommodation, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 1.15 per cent; different commodities by 0.46 per cent; transport by 0.2 per cent; and furniture and maintenance tools by 0.16 per cent.
 
The indicator for July declined 0.57 per cent for non-alcohol beverages and food products by 0.57 per cent; culture and entertainment by 0.1 per cent; and hotel and restaurants by 0.5 per cent.
 
Prices of other groups of products were stable in July.
