Eid Al Adha may fall on Sunday, October 5, 2014, according to the Chairman of Islamic Crescent Observation Project (ICOP). If this is the case, the public sector in the UAE might be once again looking forward to a nine-day holiday break.
Eid could also fall on October 4, however, Mohammed Shawkat Awda, was quoted as saying in 'Al Bayan'.
While an official announcement will come closer to the actual dates, going by past precedent, public sector employees in the UAE could enjoy a nine-day break, including weekends. October 5 is a Sunday, and as has been the case previously, five days of public holidays may well be declared – till Thursday, October 9.
If this is the case, it will include schools as well. Count the weekend (Oct 3-4) before and the one after (Oct 10-11) and the UAE may be looking at nine days off.
Again, given previous precedent, private sector may get two days off, which is till Tuesday, October 7, in which case with the preceding weekend it will become a 4-day break.
For Eid Al Fitr this year, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources had declared a five-day holiday for Federal ministries and agencies, which became a nine-day break with the weekends on either side.
