Even as the shift from feature phones to smartphones continues at a fast pace, a recent trend indicates the growing acceptance of tablets as a replacement to laptops and desktops at homes in the UAE, according to telecom services provider Etisalat.

Hunger for data is on the rise in the UAE and Gulf countries, as is the world over, the firm noted in a media statement, and announced that it has expanded its device and data bundling portfolio with the launch of tablet data bundles.

In response to the evolving tablet usage for data-specific needs, Etisalat has launched affordable tablet post-paid data bundles that offer customers flexible purchase options and ease of payment on a 12-month and 24-month contract basis, it said.

“For as low as Dh150 per month, post-paid customers can get their hands on a free tablet and a minimum 1GB data allowance,” Etisalat said in the statement.

“Among the growing number of tablet users in the UAE, there is a surge of children using tablets for both educational and entertainment purposes,” said Khaled Elkhouly, Chief Marketing Officer, Etisalat.

“Our new tablet data bundle packs are designed to cater to the data needs of children and adults alike. Therefore, as the new academic year kicks off, it is a pocket-friendly offer that parents can look at taking up for their children,” he added.

Etisalat said that the tablets that it is offering include Samsung Tab S among others, all of which are available in varying sizes and colours. It also gives the option of upgrading data plans upon additional payment of Dh100 or Dh200 per month for 5GB or 10GB, respectively.
