It’s the midway mark of the Gitex Shopper and smartphone prices are the first to plummet with LG, BlackBerry, Sony Xperia, Samsung, among others, marking a significant drop.

LG G3 has dropped by almost Dh500. The device, which was priced at Dh2299 across all retailers when the show started is now selling for Dh1799. Whats more, you also get accessories as bundle offers.

The BlackBerry Q10 model, which was retailing at Dh1,049 at the beginning of the Shopper has dropped by Dh100 at both the company’s stand and One Mobile. Certain other stores have dropped the prices by an additional Dh150. You can now buy a BlackBerry Q10 at the Gitex Shopper for as low as Dh825.

Meanwhile, the Q5, which was being retailed at Dh799 has also dropped further to Dh674.

The Z3 also has witnessed a price drop of Dh100 to sell for Dh799 across various retailers, while the older BlackBerry 9720 is now for Dh574 from Dh649.

You can also get a BlackBerry Q10 for as low as Dh349 but with not one but two Etisalat postpaid plans with a monthly commitment of Dh100 and for a minimum of four months. Each plan comes with 1 GB monthly data and 300 flexible minutes.

When asked why someone would buy two SIM cards when the Q10 is not a dual SIM phone, the retailer said, “This is the plan if you want the device for Dh349,” he said. With a similar postpaid plan you also get a Z3 for Dh49.

In yet another major drop the Sony Xperia Z Ultra LTE is selling for Dh1,099 at Sharaf DG, a drop of more than 50 per cent. The device was priced at Dh2,199 before the Shopper. It also comes with a bundle offer that includes a Manchester City headphone.

“Yesterday alone we sold more than 100 units. We have a little more than 100 units remaining,” one of the promoters said.  The model is already out of stock with other retailers.

Meanwhile, at Jumbo you can get a Samsung Galaxy S5 for Dh1999, while the dual SIM S5 Duos is priced at Dh2199. Hunt harder at other venues and you might even find a Samsung S5 Duos for much cheaper. We found one retailer selling five remaining S5 Duos at just Dh1700.

E-City is running a similar price drop deal on the popular Samsung Note 3 LTE, with a price drop averaging Dh300 for the phone to retail now for Dh2,099, which is bundled further with a digital camera and a Samsung audio dock worth Dh799.

The Note 3 3G is retailing for Dh1,999, which also comes with a digital camera, plus a power bank and a selfie stick.

Another major drop in prices is on the Nokia Lumia 1520. Jacky’s is offering a 32” LCD and the smartphone along with a 500 GB hard disk and several other gadgets as bundle for Dh1799.
