Water, electricity security deposits doubled in Dubai

The deposit for activating water and electricity supply for apartments and villas has doubled, Emirates 24|7 has learned.

A customer care executive at the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) confirmed that the security deposit has increased from Dh1,000 to Dh2,000 for apartments.

“The increase has been there since September 21,” he added.

For villas, the deposit has gone up from Dh2,000 to Dh4,000.

The security deposit is refundable at the time of vacating the property.

Official comments from Dewa on the subject were awaited at the time of publishing this article.

The change is also yet to be registered on Dewa’s official website.

Under the FAQ section, the rates mentioned remain as “Security Deposit for a Villa/House = Dh2000” and “Security Deposit for a Flat = Dh1000”.
