Chelsea must have an eye on Daniel Sturridge and wonder how he got away.

Liverpool needed two extra-time goals to beat Notts County 4-2 at Anfield in the League Cup second round on Tuesday and it was England Sturridge, along with substitute Jordan Henderson, who spared Liverpool's blushes after their League One opponents stormed back to level at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Liverpool opened the scoring in the fourth minute through a fine solo effort from Raheem Sterling.

Daniel Sturridge then made the most of a defense-splitting pass from Steven Gerrard to put the hosts 2-0 up in the 29th.

But County pulled one back from Yoann Arquin's header in the 62nd, and substitute Adam Coombes slotted in a late equaliser.

"I think we got complacent and they got some belief," Sturridge told British broadcaster Sky Sports. "They started playing better football, but our fitness from pre-season showed at the end."

Liverpool paid a heavy price at the back as Kolo Toure was stretchered off.

That has put Brendan Rodgers back in the transfer market for a central defender.

As Liverpool head to Manchester United this weekend as one of only two clubs unbeaten in the Premier League, talk is of Rogers also considering a move for Chelsea's Victor Moses.

With Sturridge on fire, it is in the defence department that Anfield needs to worry.

The other on-fire striker is Robin Van Persie and with Wayne Rooney more or less settled, Rodgers will need all his defensive options available to stay unbeaten at Old Trafford.
