The stand-off between an Uzbek woman who walked into the Dubai Public Prosecution premises accompanied by her child, claiming she was carrying an explosive belt, and the Dubai Police, has been resolved peacefully.
The Dubai Police said on Sunday that the woman threatened to blow herself up if she doesn’t receive help to resolve a personal dispute over proving fatherhood of her child.
According to a latest Dubai Government Media Office update: “The stand-off at #Dubai Public Prosecution building was brought to an end peacefully.”
“The belt the woman was wearing at the building wasn't explosive one. Similar wires that the woman claimed to be explosive belt were found at her home and found to be normal after explosives expert's examination.
“A team of 4 Security Personnel led the negotiation that ended the stand-off peacefully,” the update stated.
Earlier, Dubai Police had immediately evacuated the building and the surrounding area taking all precautionary measures to secure the place and ensure the safety of all individuals who were in the vicinity of the building.
A team of negotiators took over communication with the Uzbek woman to look into her demand and secure a peaceful end to the incident.
Preliminary assessment of the incident had shown that the woman resorted to this extreme action in an attempt to attract attention and win sympathy that may help her put an end to this family dispute.
Dubai Police yesterday stressed that all necessary precautions were taken to guarantee the woman’s safety and the safety of her child and prevent any uncalculated reactions that would cause harm.
