Police in Sri Lanka on Sunday found a 14-year-old girl who had been confined to a house for about one and a half months, the ‘Divaina’ newspaper reported.
A 17-year-old boy, who had fallen in love with the girl, had brought her to his house and hid her there.
The boy is from Ambadandegama, Bandarawela and the girl from Peliyagoda.
Suspicious neighbours had tipped off the judicial medical officer of a local hospital about the presence of an underage girl in the house. The medical officer informed the police.
The girl was missing from the house when police visited it but she was located in a nearby forest.
The girl claimed she had been sexually abused by another person in Peliyagoda area.
Lankan woman held at Bulgarian border
Bulgarian authorities have arrested a Sri Lankan woman trying to leave the country secretly by hiding in a German-registered minibus, the ‘Lakbima News’ reported.
The minibus, driven by a 45-year-old German, was stopped at the Vidin-Danube Bridge 2 border checkpoint on Saturday night.
Border police officers found a hidden compartment under the vehicle’s floor in which the 20-year-old Sri Lankan woman was found hiding.
The woman and the minibus driver have been arrested.
