Unstable weather again in UAE: Windy, rainy Friday

Residents across the UAE will experience another fluctuating weather front blowing in rainfall and raising dust over the weekend, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

The UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) told Emirates 24|7 the weather system is blowing in from the northeast and east, shifting in from the south of Iran, which will also give rise to instability at sea and bring about a dip in Mercury of up to five degrees Celsius.

On Friday morning, NCMS warned of fresh to strong winds, causing blowing dust and sand, with reduced horizontal visibility, especially over the open lands and the sea is very rough.

A spokesperson stated: “There is probability of rain over the northern and eastern parts of the UAE, specifically Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. The wet weather could also stretch further south to Ajman and Sharjah, with increased cloud cover across the country.”

The NCMS further added: “On Friday, the country will also experience an increase in wind speed of up to 50kms per hour, which will give rise to raised dust and sand over open areas. The weather pattern will continue until Saturday afternoon, with a chance of low visibility.

“This will be further fuelled with a rise in humidity that could result in early morning fog on Friday.”

Meanwhile, residents who are missing the cooler climes will experience a dip in Mercury over the weekend, due to the weather change and the corresponding cloud cover.

The NCMS has also issued a marine warning over the weekend, forecasting very rough conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

The NCMS further added: “The rough seas will continue until late Saturday, with wave height reaching up to 10 feet in the Arabian Gulf.

“Residents need to be careful in coastal areas, especially low lying regions such as Kalba where the water can accumulate and come inland.”
