A dead body was found inside the toilet of the Gold Center building in Deira on Tuesday morning.
Sources in Dubai Gold Center said shops were closed for almost two hours because Dubai Police had cordoned off the area to remove dead body which was found in the toilet of the mezzanine floor of the building, which houses many gold and jewllery chains.
Located opposite to the Gold Souq bus station and at the entrance of the road leading to the Deira Gold Souk, the Gold Center has two floors of retail jewellery outlets and additional offices floors occupied mainly by jewellery trading companies.
“The dead body was found in the toilet of the mezzanine floor of Gold Center Building. The toilet was locked from inside. The cleaning boy saw the body and alerted others about it,” said a source in Gold Center.
“(The body) was taken into custody by the Dubai Police and all the shops remained closed until the body was removed by the police. Normally our shops and offices open at 9am but today the shops were allowed to open only after 10.45am,” said a shop owner.
The body appeared to be that of an Indian from the state of Punjab. It appears that the man died late on Monday night and the cleaning boy found it on Tuesday early morning. “It was an Indian man from Punjab in his 50s. He was a customer who had come to Gold Center for business,” said the source.
Nobody was allowed to go inside the building in the morning and employees working in shops and offices were allowed only after the dead body was removed.
Dubai Police confirmed that an Indian aged more than fifty years was found dead in the toilet of Gold Center building at around 5am.
It’s believed that he died of heart attack. The body will be sent to forensic lab for further investigation. The functioning of the Gold Souq is not affected by the incident and it has been working normally, according to Dubai Police source.
