An Egyptian manager allegedly raped a Belarusian woman in her house after claiming to be interested in doing business with her, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
EZ, 28, businesswoman, ran out of her flat completely naked and chased her rapist who ran after her to prevent her from reporting against him.
Seeing a neighbour in the corridor of the building, she asked her to call the police and to give her something to cover her body with.
EZ knew the accused AA, 28, via the internet where they chatted about business in Dubai. She gave her mobile number after telling him that she lives in Dubai where she would return to on May 25.
“One the following day, AA called me and asked me to meet him to discuss some business. I agreed and suggested meeting in a coffee shop in Dubai Marina. He told me that his place of work is close to my house and suggested meeting me in my house to show me the trade licences he had.
“The building’s security staff called me at around 4.30pm, telling me that a man called AA wants to come up to my flat. I asked the security staff to allow him to come up. I opened the door for him and lead him to the hall. My flat mate Victoria was in her room.
“After a little while, AA said he wanted to go to the toilet. While I was guiding him to the bathroom, my flat mate left. He returned to the hall and we started talking about his businesses. I asked him if he had any documents relating to his business but he said ‘no’ and sought more time to know each other personally before starting any business.
“Then he changed his place and sat next to me. He groped my hand and my leg. I tried to prevent him from doing that but he got upset and suddenly pushed his hand underneath my shirt and tried to grope my breast. I got scared of him and pushed him and ran towards my bedroom to call the police…
“He ran after me and held me by my hair and then held both my hands towards my back and pushed me towards the bed after pulling down my trousers. He undressed me while I was resisting him screaming and shouting. He punched me in the face to prevent me from screaming. Because I was scared of him, I submitted to him.
“He used a condom and finished after about half an hour after which he went to the toilet. I grabbed the opportunity and rushed toward the flat’s door. He came after me but I managed to release myself from him and opened the door and ran out completely naked. I pressed the button on the lift and it’s doors opened. Two Asians were in but did not offer any help.
“My rapist got into the lift wanting to run away. I got into the lift and tried to press the ground button but he prevented me and the lift went up. At the 34th floor, the lift stopped and my attacker got out. As I ran behind him, he pushed me away from him and beat me. He got into the lift again and went down to the lower floor. I saw a woman and asked her to call the police which she did. I covered my body and then the police and security staff arrived and I went with them to lodge a complaint,” the victim testified.
SJ, 29, Indian teacher testified that she came out of her flat on the 34 floor in the afternoon. As the lift’s door opened, she saw two of the tower’s cleaners, a man and a completely naked woman in the lift.
“I did not notice the features of the man who was shouting at the naked woman. As the scene was shocking, I did not get into the lift but turned back to my flat. At this time, the naked woman got out of the lift and she was crying. I went back towards her and asked her about the problem. She continued crying badly. I stepped towards my flat to bring her a piece of cloth to cover her body and to call the police.
“But when I turned back to her, I did not find her. I decided to search for the naked woman so I pressed the lift button and when the lift’s doors opened there was a worker was in it.
“I told her about the naked crying woman and so we started searching every flat until we saw her and she was still naked and crying. I covered her body with the cloth and we went to her flat on the 17th floor. The woman did not want to enter her flat. She was scared that her attacker may get into her flat again,” SJ testified.
The security staff was informed and he came up and searched the flat and said he was sure that the attacker was not in. The victim got into her flat and called the police again. Police arrived and took the victim to lodge a complaint. Her flat mate Victoria told the police that she was aware that the victim knew her rapist via the internet and that he came to the flat on the day of the crime.
Reviewing the camera footage of the tower and the lifts, police saw a naked woman entering the lift behind a man who was wearing a brown long-sleeve shirt and a black trouse . She was trying to pull him out while he was trying to push her out of the lift. As the woman did not succeed, she got into the lift and sat on the floor. When the lift stopped, the man pulled the woman by her hair out of the lift, kicked her and got into the lift again.
Police tricked the attacker to come to Sheikh Zayed Road where he was arrested.
Forensic reported the victim’s DNA on the accused’s private parts. It also reported nail scratches and bruises on the victim’s body.
The Court will reconvene on February 9.
