The five student coders were selected for their project proposals outlining how they would execute their fully developed mobile applications using the Android operating system to ignite change within their communities. Their solutions were based on three key pillars: boosting economic growth, providing humanitarian value and enabling creativity and innovation.

The top five projects are: Sanad by Farah Mahdi Khudhair, 3al Faraza by Iman Wagdy Selim, Help the Poor by Mohamed Sobhy Abdelmageed, Tammeni by Saeed Awad Abou Si’ah, and Landmine Alert by Marwan al Hakimi.

The top four tutors were Abdulwahid AlJamaly from Yemen, Eyad Raschad from Syria, Basila AlMahli from Syria, and Sara Zehraoui from Morocco.

Commending the outstanding student projects, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, encouraged the young Arab winners to use the knowledge they had gained during their participation in the One Million Arab Coders initiative and employ their creativity and spirit of innovation to serve their communities and build a brighter tomorrow. He noted that coding is the language of the future and is a key skill to acquire, reminding the student coders that they play an integral role in building the foundation of a comprehensive economic renaissance in the Arab region, as envisioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

"Through this effort, we will continue to encourage young talent and provide them with the opportunity to showcase their ideas and work with experts and specialists to bring these ideas to fruition for the greater good of their communities," he added.

Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, the One Million Arab Coders initiative seeks to train one million young Arabs in computer programming, in order to empower and equip them with the technological tools and expertise to face the challenges of the future.

Help the Poor by Mohamed Sobhy Abdelmageed, 35 years Mohamed’s idea for his Android app struck him when he observed many people throwing away old clothes and buying new ones while others were in dire need of new clothing. He realized that people always have the intention to donate but are not sure how to go about it. The Egyptian national created the Saaed El Gheir app to connect people to Egyptian NGOs so that they could reach out to the organizations easily. The app is currently in the development stage and needs to bring two more non-profits onboard before its official launch.

Tammeni by Saeed Awad Abou Si’ah, 27years Leveraging his learnings from a data analysis course with OMAC, Saeed, a Yemen-Hadramaut resident of Saudi Arabia, successfully launched Tammeni, an app that ensures the safety of students across schools in Yemen through enabling real-time location tracking using a bracelet or student card.

Cara Delevingne finds happiness in doing things for other people "every single day".

The 27-year-old star believes recent events, like the coronavirus pandemic, have served to underline the importance of being loving and thoughtful.

She shared: "Love is not a construct. It's a constant. It's something that we have to work on every single day.

"For me, every day, especially during this time, it's been about doing things for myself, and then also for others every single day, which make me happy."

Despite ongoing challenges, Cara also believes it's important to remain optimistic.

The model-turned-actress - who is openly pansexual - said: "Love is such an important message. It always is, but especially with Pride and especially with what's going on in the world.

"It's about self-love and being able to be comfortable with caring for yourself in a different way, and also spreading love, spreading support, and staying optimistic."

Cara also feels that, in light of recent events, "Pride shouldn't just be about the LGBTQ community".

She told Advocate.com: "It should be about everyone coming together and really supporting each other."

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift recently hailed Cara as a "deeply loyal" friend.

The chart-topping music star described Cara as "eccentric, hilarious, and loving".

Taylor added: "She's an explorer by nature and is always on the hunt for the next adventure, which makes it a wild ride being her friend. You legitimately never know where the night will take you when she's around.

"But while she's spirited and outgoing, she's also the person you'll find in the corner of a party talking to someone she's just met for hours, just because they're going through a rough time.

"She's deeply curious about others and profoundly sensitive. It's that mixture of curiosity and sensitivity that I think makes her such a natural at becoming someone else on camera."

Vicky to dub from August

Work is on in a very meticulous manner for the Vicky Kaushal starrer Sardar Udham Singh – director Shoojit Sircar’s next film after Gulabo Sitabo. Even as the film had a mixed response after streaming on a digital platform, Shoojit like every other filmmaker has been working in a phased manner locking the edit of the film first using the editor and an assistant working within a time frame and adhering to safety norms.

Vicky is slated to start dubbing for the film once the edit is locked by August. “Once the edit is locked the dubbing for the film will start. The work on the visual effects of the film is also pending which will happen simultaneously with the dubbing and from multiple locations as all of them cannot be present in the same place. Vicky and the other actors meanwhile will finish their share of dubbing for the film and then the sound mix of the film will take place. The VFX will need to be done by a large team of over 12 dozen people and work will be distributed accordingly – for some to work from the studios and others from home,” says a source.

Vicky ‘s building was also under containment and he has not been able to step out earlier. He will be expected to come to dub after six weeks from now. While the makers had earlier shifted the release date to January 2021, the current speed of the work considering the magnitude may not necessarily permit the film to release on time. “It was earlier slated to release in October 2020 and then moved to January 2021. But now it does not seem that the film will be able to make it unless the work is completed on time,” adds the source.

His Highness called on young Emiratis to propose innovative solutions and creative ideas that support the UAE’s food security efforts.

Sheikh Mohammed made the remarks today as he visited the Fish Farm in Jebel Ali, Dubai. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum accompanied Sheikh Mohammed during his visit. Upon his arrival, His Highness was welcomed by Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Al Muhairi, UAE Minister of State for Food Security.

His Highness said: "Food is a strategic commodity and we look to young Emiratis to propose new ideas and projects to help further enhance food production. We have a clear strategy and sufficient resources to achieve our objectives. We are confident that we can generate practical solutions to achieve self-sufficiency."

The Vice President said the country’s ability to ensure sustained flow of food supplies during the exceptional situation created by the COVID-19 outbreak through successful measures implemented by the government showed the strength and resilience of national food security strategies and our capability to respond effectively to the needs of our community. He said UAE markets did not witness any shortage in food supply.

His Highness’s visit to the Fish Market is part of his field tours to review the progress of national projects.

The CEO of the Fish Farm Bader bin Mubarak briefed Sheikh Mohammed and his accompanying delegation on the strategy of the farm and its future expansion plans, particularly in the area of cold-water fish, aimed at reducing imports and securing sustainable supplies to local markets.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the inland farming facilities that use state of the art technologies to produce high quality fish in a closed containment system. The Fish Farm in Jebel Ali has a facility for breeding fish in a controlled environment. The Fish Farm was incorporated in 2013 with support from Crown Prince of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Fish Farm produces about 3,000 tons of organic fish per year. The farm focuses on building marine fish breeding and hatchery facilities to support local markets through its main facility in Dubai and two branches in Dibba Al Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.

UAE Pavilion's 'Sara's Song' strikes popular chord at EXPO 2015

Just five days before the opening of Expo 2015 in Milan a devastating earthquake struck Nepal, destroying whole villages and killing or injuring thousands of people.

The contrast between the excitement and anticipation around the last few days before the World Fair, and the suffering, desolation and despair in Nepal, could hardly have been more poignant.

The UAE immediately responded to the tragedy with humanitarian assistance in the form of shelters, doctors, transportation and a strong message of support and hope for traumatised Nepalese.

Emirati Rap at EXPO 2015 - A Call for Action!

Posted by UAE Interact on Saturday, April 11, 2015

A universal effort to help the victims of the biggest earthquake in living memory in Nepal seemed to bring into sharp focus the sentiments expressed by 'Sara' in 'Future Talk' at the UAE Pavilion.

She sings of the frustration of seeing things going wrong with the world and the feelings of inadequacy as just one small person.

"Cause what can I do? – Alone and too small – I'd need to be a giant who is ten foot tall," she raps, wishing for powers she doesn't have.

The real message of the UAE pavilion at this iconic Expo is expressed as she calls for everyone to "stand up, shout out and join in" – evoking the power of community, of partnership and of individuals taking their own initiatives.

It is an energetic rap that goes straight to the heart and has inspired thousands of visitors to the pavilion.

As the UAE has demonstrated time and time again, its message is one of facing up to challenges with energy and a determination to make positive contributions to 'our world'.

'Sara's Song' aptly catches these dynamics and endures long after people have said their farewells to Sara and her family through whom the story is told at Expo Milano 2015.

The launch of Italian and English versions of 'Sara's Song' on iTunes stores in the UAE and Italy, plus other parts of the world, is in response to thousands of Expo visitors requesting copies of the music.

The UAE Pavilion Team felt it appropriate that funds raised should go to help people who lost their homes, livelihoods and loved ones in the Nepal earthquakes of April 2015.

As visitors leave 'Future Talk' with Sara's Song ringing in their ears, they join in, singing and dancing to the music – especially the last lines in which Sara declares: "I'm in – I'm there – It's my planet too."

It is an uplifting message of hope founded in a determination to tackle the issues that affect our world.

Victoria Beckham 'loans £6.4m to save fashion business'

Victoria Beckham is reportedly poised to take a £6.4 million loan to save her fashion business.

The singer-turned-designer has been offered the loan after her company, Victoria Beckham Ltd, made significant losses over a four-year period.

The loan will ensure Victoria retains control of the company.

However, if Luxembourg-based London Investments Sarl is not repaid its money, the cash could be converted into shares in Victoria Beckham Ltd.

A financial expert told The Sun newspaper: "Posh wouldn't want to relinquish any more control in a business which is formed in her name.

"Yet desperate times require desperate measures. The move will secure a much-needed cash injection - and after racking up record losses last year of some £12 million they can't afford not to do something radical."

In 2017, London Investments put £30 million into the company for a 28 percent share of the business.

The injection of money and plans to restructure the business were revealed earlier this week in new records.

Meanwhile, Victoria recently admitted wearing fitted dresses during the early years of her career was a "sign of insecurity".

The 46-year-old fashion designer now recognises her style was geared towards helping to deal with her own insecurities.

Asked whether she ever felt confused about her personal style, Victoria said: "No, not really. When I was in the Spice Girls there were stylists who dressed the group, but in my personal life I have never worked with a stylist.

"I used to wear lots of structured dresses with corsetry, and I do still have some of those dresses, but my personal style has become more relaxed.

"Looking back, I guess it was a sign of insecurity that I would always wear clothes that were very tight, very fitted."

Jennifer Aniston has promised the 'Friends' reunion show will be "really fun".

The 51-year-old actress is set to reunite with her former co-stars - including Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer - for a special one-off reunion for HBO Max later this year, and has now assured fans the show will be "fun".

Jennifer - who starred as Rachel Green in the hit series - and her co-stars were supposed to get together for the reunion in May, but due to the coronavirus pandemic filming has been postponed, with the stars now hoping to get into the studios in August.

Speaking with Lisa Kudrow - who played Phoebe Buffay - for Variety magazine's 'Actors on Actors' series, Jennifer said: "I think it's gonna be really fun also if we ever get out of quarantine [and] get to do our reunion show."

To which Lisa replied: "Yes, that will be really great. I can't wait to do that. I really can't wait to do that. Yeah, we don't know everything about it, we need to say. I think we're meant to be surprised by some things as well."

And whilst the pair wouldn't spill any secrets about the upcoming reunion, they did share they wouldn't be reprising their iconic characters, as the special will instead feature the stars reminiscing on their time on the show.

Jennifer said: "We know it's not scripted, that we know. I will not be Rachel, although I kind of am. Well, we're all sort of little fragments of them. Not really. But yeah."

And Lisa added: "Yeah, no. I will not be Phoebe."

The duo's comments come after Martha Kauffman, who co-created 'Friends', revealed the reunion could be set to film in August.

She said: "We are hoping to be able to shoot in August, if all is well and there is no early second wave and the studio is open. If everything is in place and we understand all the protocols and we can still make a good show, we'll be shooting it some time, mid-to-late August."

Ignoring neurological symptoms may even lead to permanent disability: Senior Neurologist

Lack of awareness on early symptoms of some neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, MS, prevent some youngsters in the UAE from taking medical help in the beginning, which even lead them to permanent disability, a senior neurologist told Emirates News Agency, WAM.

"The concern on MS is not the number of people afflicted by the disease but it is the most common cause of permanent disability in youngsters. These are the people who are just out of the college...or just started doing a job...or just got married...and this disease can make them disabled," said Dr. Ahmed Shatila, Consultant Neurologist at Sheikh Shakbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, which is under Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, SEHA.

"It is not about huge number of patients. Even it is one person, he or she should not be left permanently disabled, especially since the UAE has a robust medical infrastructure to treat this disease; patients have to just utilise it properly," he pointed out.

In medical terms, multiple sclerosis is a progressive, immune-mediated disorder. That means the system designed to keep your body healthy mistakenly attacks parts of your body that are vital to everyday function. The protective coverings of nerve cells are damaged, which leads to diminished function in the brain and spinal cord, which may cause paralysis, vision loss, and diminished brain function.

Like any other chronic disease, the doctor said, early diagnosis and treatment are the key in controlling MS.

"If you have any new symptoms such as numbness, vision problems, pains and spasms, and weakness or fatigue, balance problems or dizziness etc., you should consult a physician who can identify its seriousness and refer you to a neurologist for further treatment," Dr. Shatila advised.

Mostly patients are in their 20s and 30s (in some cases up to 45). As young females are more vulnerable to this disease, they constitute 60 percent of the patients and 40 percent are men, he said.

MS is a chronic disease like diabetes and hypertension that are hard to be cured completely. Although it is not fatal, MS may reduce the patients’ life expectancy by 8 to 15 years, Dr. Shatila said.

However, early diagnosis and treatment help to control the disease without worsening the patient’s condition to permanent disability, the doctor explained.

Globally, on an average 100 people in 100,000 population are afflicted by MS but the number of cases in the UAE is fewer – on an average 66 in 100,000, he said.

Although the disease was detected in 1868, the research to find the exact reasons is still going on. Apart from genetic factors, possible viral infection and vitamin-D deficiency are the suspected causes, the doctor explained.

Properly following the treatment regimen is very important for a patient. Many patients with worsened conditions have admitted that they have not been taking medicines properly, Dr. Shatila revealed.

He has seen many success stories of patients who have overcome the MS with their determination and discipline. "A 16-year-old boy was diagnosed with MS. After three years’ treatment, now he can walk up to 15 kilometres," the doctor said.
